I'm surprised I haven't asked this yet on the forums, but does anyone have good movies to recommend? I'm always stumped for new movies to watch Big fan of thriller, drama, horror, sci-fi and comedies and the occasional documentary~ Some I can list at the moment: - The Purge (thriller/drama) - The Strangers (thriller/horror) - Death at a Funeral (comedy)

Man, I watch really bubbly stuff compared to you If you like folklore kinda movies and don't mind watching cartoons, here are some of my favorite movies I'd suggest checking out Secret Of Kells, Princess Mononoke (very gritty), Nocturna, War Horse, Death Becomes her (dark, but funny), Boxtrolls and the Tremors movies (really bad monster movies, but surprisingly scary)

How to train your Dragon 2 was also pretty cool but prepare to cry a bit .___. Also saw Fast & Furious 7 whilst overseas- if you love senseless violence and action, it's amaaaaaazing, but plot wise it's pretty pathetic. But the special effects and action really make up for it in my opinion

Well I thought it was pretty good, though I've always thought Ultron was pretty awesome.
Just wondering, is there anyone else here that has seen (or possibly even read) The Golden Compass? I remember becoming quite annoyed that they never made a sequel.

I remember I watched part of it when it first came out and wasn't overly impressed- then I heard from friends who had read the book that they were angry because the movie didn't follow the book (a general theme of book-to-movies to be honest), haven't seen it since. I thought they had made a sequel, or where at least planning one?

Yeah, on a book-to-movie basis it wasn't the best, but they never ended up making a sequel. I really hate it when a movie doesn't follow the plot of the book it is based on, I find it really distracting, like Eragon, for example. That movie started like the book, but then suddenly changed completely, which is probably why most of the book readers were upset and they decided against making a sequel, so I presume the same happened with The Golden Compass, and other movies based on books.

Yeah I get pretty annoyed if they don't follow the books either unless the change in direction was approved by the author and it actually worked well for the story on the whole. I got very annoyed by the movie of A Clockwork Orange not only because they took a different direction to it, but the original author of the book actually disproved of the movie and the views the movie took (and I don't blame him- the director missed the whole point of the story the author really wrote about). But yeah, the bad rep might have been why they never received a sequel.

I mean, Saphira was pretty cool and all, but for example, some characters who appear in the book didn't even exist on the film. Films I'd recommend... Alien: The 8th Passenger, Total Recall, Blade Runner, The Avengers, Transformers (if you like them heheh...), Blade, Titan A.E, Robocop, Chappie, Interstellar, Odisea 2001, Odisea 2010, The Abyss, etc.

District 9 and Grave Encounters (first one only) are really good too! Even better though, Pan's Labyrinth is BRILLIANT and Shutter Island is a very well done and thought out movie!
